Chicago’s NBC5 reported that 15-year-old Amari Graves was walking to the store earlier this week in the city’s West Side when a girl she recognized from school and a group of adults approached her, “stomped and kicked her, sprayed mace in her face and tore off some of her clothes.”
Graves told NBC5 that the group called her a “d*ke and a stud,” both slurs used against lesbians. Her mother, Catina Parks-Dorsey, told the news station that none of the group have been arrested.
“Absolutely nothing was done,” Parks-Dorsey said. “No one was taken into custody, they told me I had to swear out my own warrant to have them arrested.”
One of the adults who attacked Graves claimed the girl swung a bat at them, and the girl said the mother of one of her attackers filmed the incident.
The girl’s mother has called on Chicago police to charge the group with both a hate crime and sexual assault because they stripped her.
“(It’s) devastating to know you weren’t there to protect your child,” she said. “I want them locked up.”
