The North Carolina local news outlet WCCB-TV recently covered one of the most bizarre and plain stupid examples of homophobia ever. Namely, a dog owner surrendered his dog to the Stanly County Animal Protective Services after claiming that the pooch is gay.
As reported, the owners saw the dog Fezco humping another male dog, so they surrendered him because ‘he’s gay’.
Fezco, the brown and black dog resembling a Rottweiler, is friendly to people and other animals. The shelter commented that he’s about 4 to 5 years old and weighs around 50 pounds, and it’s truly bizarre that someone would care about their dog’s sexual orientation. To add to that, if the dog was humping another dog, it probably didn’t have much to do with its orientation.

According to a veterinary behaviorist, younger dogs that have not been spayed or neutered may hump other dogs, objects, or human legs as a way to practice for the ‘real thing’. Additionally, dogs may hump other dogs during play or to show dominance.
“It’s a play behavior that dogs do because no one has told them it’s not acceptable. It can become enjoyable or a normal part of the dog’s day, so it keeps doing it. It’s the same as jumping up or barking at the door.”
Scientific American reports that homosexuality is common in the animal kingdom, and such behavior has been reported in more than 1,500 animal species.
